TWO GIRLS from Dundee Ice Skating Club have been selected to represent Great Britain in the International Skating Union (ISU) figure skating competition in Croatia next week. Laura Kean (12), from Dundee, and Marissa Henderson (10), from Perth, fly out on Wednesday before competing on Thursday and Friday. They will be up against some of the toughest competitors from around the globe but are looking forward to taking part in such a huge event. The dedicated pair both train for two and a half hours before school three times a week, as well as two evenings after school and over the weekend. The commitment has paid off, with both having experienced success throughout the past year which has contributed to their selection for the competition. The pair returned from the British Novice Championships in Nottingham last month having put in creditable performances. Laura came third and Marissa was placed fourth in the two-day competition. Former Olympic coaches Debi and Simon Briggs have been working hard with the pair ahead of the biggest challenge the youngsters have faced since they took up the sport when the Dundee Ice Arena opened in September 2000.Laura is no stranger to international success, having twice won gold medals at ice skating events in America and Ireland.
